Acting by Faith
By: Steve Stiger
Hebrews 11 has often been called The Hall of Faith. It starts off with the definition of faith: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” We are a culture accustomed to having proof. All we have to do is look to the Internet for information and facts about pretty much anything. But the reason I love this chapter of Hebrews is because it’s a reminder that we can’t always have tangible proof for all that happens in life. But God is sovereign!
There’s a phrase which is used over and over again in that chapter which speaks volumes to me…by faith. Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses…all of these Christ-followers were over-comers because of a simple but profound phrase… by faith. In spite of circumstances, by faith, they chose to obey our trustworthy and faithful God even through times of peril, persecution, pain, sickness, and adversity.
Are we acting by faith even through the tough times? Are we obeying God and responding to His voice even when it’s difficult? Will we be added on God’s list of those living by faith? I pray so! Pleasing God happens when we are faithful. I pray that we are living by faith.
