A Good Mood
Last week my husband and I were walking across a busy street on our way to his cardiologist appointment. Not my first choice of ways to spend an afternoon together. The man allowing us to cross was a 20-something year old who stuck his head out the window and yelled, “Hey, aren’t you that TV lady?” I smiled, nodded, waved a greeting and kept walking. He then said, “I watch you all the time! You’re always in such a good mood!”
I glanced at my husband who gave me a knowing look as if to say, “Um, really?” He knows me well. He sees me when the cameras are off! He gets my fearful heart when we’re about to hear the cardiologist say he will need 2 procedures done. He knows what I’m thinking when my 95-year old mom asks me the same question 5 times in 5 minutes. He understands my frustration, even anger, at social injustices and racial prejudice. Good mood all the time? Hmm.
The Lord knows me, too, and I think He wanted me to learn a lesson from the nice man in the car. My child, you can be in a good mood because I’m with you. I want you to count it all joy, pray without ceasing, and be thankful in all situations…because I, the Lord your God, will never leave you or forsake you. I came to save you, give you peace. My blood was shed for YOU.
Yes, in this world we will experience all kinds of reasons for being in a bad mood. But we are also overcomers because our Jesus came to give us His peace, joy and comfort. That should be reason enough to get me out of the doldrums and back into a place of…well, a good mood. Thanks, Lord, for the reminder.
