Just this past Sunday, daughter Kristen was picking me up to go to a special church service with her, and she mentioned having a bad hair day. I mean, a really bad hair day. I noticed that her hair was dull and actually looked a little heavy, and dare I say…greasy. Normally, her hair is shiny, bouncy and beautiful, so this was definitely not the norm.
Kristen mentioned that she has two new bottles of hair product in her shower, one shampoo and the other conditioner. I asked her if there was a chance that perhaps she had mistakenly used conditioner to wash her hair. The light bulb went on. Of course, that was the culprit…double washing with conditioner, no shampoo that morning! We laughed. Mystery solved.
I began to wonder about the spiritual application. How often do I forget to use the right product to cleanse my mind? (The Bible). How often do I rely on other remedies to fix my problems? (Doing it my way). Do I forget that I am righteous with God because He has already gone to the cross on my behalf? (Depending on my good works). As a believer in Christ, I don’t have to do anything to win His favor. It’s done. It’s finished.
Jesus took care of everything for every one of us on the cross. His blood washed us clean. The cost was great. He spared nothing because He loved each of us so deeply.
“To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood…”
Remember with me today and be grateful for our Savior and Lord’s incredible gift of life everlasting. I’ll take a spiritual washing any day over using double conditioner…or even shampoo for that matter. Have a blessed day…and check the label next time, Kristen, when you’re in the shower.
